Hi there! Welcome to my site/blog. My name is Alison and I am a home gardener. I know the name “Cooksey Farms” would lead you to believe I have a huge property with chickens and other animals, but I really just have a cat. And I live in the suburbs in California. And my garden space isn’t huge. “So why use the term ‘farm?’” you may be wondering. Well, that is in part a longer story that started out as a joke that I used for my Instagram handle. But as my account grew, I realized it may be misleading, but by that point, I was already in too deep and established with my username, so I kept it. But, “hobby farms” are very real, and generally, the way I see it, hobby farms are for gardeners who maybe want to do a little more than flowers and landscaping, or maybe focus more on growing food.

I try to live as sustainably as I can; I have been gardening for about four years although I grew up watching my dad garden. In these four years, I have learned a lot, and most of it has been by trial and error. I do research and ask others for advice, but sometimes, the best thing to do is try something. If it works? Great! If it didn’t work? You know you switch it up and try something else.
